We encourage
community involvement and continually attempt to strengthen
the relationship between the residents and the surrounding community.
Relatives, friends and community members are encouraged to visit
and children are especially welcome!
Efforts are
made to involve visits from members of local organizations,
churches, school groups, and choirs to foster a sense of connection
with the community. Many community outings are arranged as well,
and familiy and volunteers are always welcome to help implement
programs and provide individual services.
Woods Park has attractive rental facilities for your next meeting,
course, or special event. Our community room is approx. 2200
sq.feet and easily accommodates 150 people. Our chapel can accommodate
comfortably a group of 60. Catering services can also be arranged.
Please contact Tanya McGinness for further information on these
available services.
Visitors:
Visiting is
encouraged at any time that is suitable to the individual residents
wishes. Residents are encouraged to join family and friends
on outings as able. Pets are always welcome and enjoyed during
visits but we request that they be kept on a leash during their
visit. Visitors are welcome to enjoy a beverage or snack with
their loved one during their visits. Our nutritional centres
have beverages available 24 hours so please help yourself. If
you wish to join your loved one for a meal, please notify the
front reception desk 24 hours in advance, a nominal fee will
be charged per person.
Rooms:
The majority
of our rooms are private with on-suite bathrooms. Basic rooms
are designed for two residents and share a washroom. All rooms
are spacious and tastefully decorated with furnishings. Residents
are encouraged to bring their own furnishings and personalize
their rooms with quilts/comforters.
We want you to feel at home!
Each room is equipped with cable TV and telephone services
that residents may choose as an additional service.
Meals:
Meals are
an important part of our residents daily lives. They provide
both social and nutritional elements that are crucial to well-being.
We pride ourselves in serving delicious homestyle meals with
a choice of entrees. Special therapeutic diets available as
required. Our menu's are developed with our residents nutritional
needs and tastes in mind. The registered dietitian ensures
that the rotating menus meet Canada's food guide and offer
plenty of variety. In addition, nutritious snacks and beverages
are provided between meals and through the evening, as well
we have a 24 hour nutritional area that is made available
in each home area 24 hours a day.
Care Support Team
Nursing:
All staff work
together to facilitate resident's choice, embracing Specialty
Care's Enabling Choices philosophy
of care. This care model recognizes the right of each resident
to make decisions about their own care and encourages individual
control surrounding the choices encountered in daily life.
Our care team provides a wide range of services to care for
the whole person-mind, body and spirit. "Wellness" is emphasized
fulfilling emotional, physical and spiritual needs. We strive
to achieve the maximum level of independence regardless of physical
condition.
Woods Park offers a home like atmosphere within all of our resident
home areas know as Maple Woods, Oak Woods, with Birch and Willow
Woods dedicated to persons with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia.
We follow a wellness philosophy and the principles of Gentle
Care. This emphasizes human values, connections, and a working
pace that is geared to support persons afflicted with Alzheimers
or dementia. Our care team provides the support needed to make
up for the progressive loss of functioning that results from
this illness.
Understanding the
importance of family involvement, we welcome family participation
in every aspect of our resident's lives. Our open door policy
invites family and friends to become part of our caring community.
Through regular family meetings, newsletters, conferences and
information brochures we keep families informed.
Programs:
We offer a
full range of group and individual programs that can enhance
your recreational, intellectual, physical, and cultural involvement.
Crafts, cards, bingo, sing-a-longs, fitness, pet visits, special
events, outings, shopping trips, kids club, gardening, ice cream
social, and happy hour are just some of the programs available.
Please see our monthly calendar
to find out what we have planned in the upcoming months. Family
and friends are always welcome to join a loved one for any of
our activities.
Physiotherapy/Rehabilitation:
The restorative
care program strives to maintain and improve resident's functional
status to allow the individual to reach their maximum potential.
Programs include ambulation, restorative dining, sensory stimulation,
physio and occupational programs which are developed on an individual
basis by qualified personnel.
Pastoral Services:
Interdenominational
services and Sunday services are held weekly. Other religious
programs such as hymn sings, spiritual reflections and pastoral
visiting are also organized on a weekly basis or according to
resident wishes. Our spiritual advisor is available to individual
residents, family members and staff to offer counseling and
support during difficult times or just for friendly visiting.
Laundry and Housekeeping:
Our in house
laundry services provide for the laundering of all residents
personal clothing items. Articles are labeled on admission and
when ever new items are received. Fresh linens are provided
weekly and as necessary.
Our housekeeping department staff work very hard keeping our
home clean and tidy. Residents rooms, bathrooms, and all common
areas and halls are cleaned daily, and a more thorough cleaning
is provided.
